Bibliology and Theology: Foundations of Faith
This module focuses on two foundational categories of Bible doctrine: Bibliology and Theology. Bibliology, the doctrine of the Bible, encompasses key concepts such as revelation and inspiration, authenticity of the Scriptures, credibility of the Scripture, canonicity of the Scriptures. These elements are crucial in biblical theology as they establish the nature and authority of the Bible as God’s Word. Understanding these aspects of Bibliology is essential for a sound understanding of all other doctrines, as the Bible is the source and foundation of Christian theology. Biblical theology approaches Bibliology by tracing the development of God’s revealed Word from its earliest forms to its final canonization.
Theology, the doctrine of God, explores the being and attributes of God, arguments for His existence, His Trinitarian nature, and His work of creation and providence. These theological concepts are central to biblical theology as they define the nature and character of the God who reveals Himself in Scripture. The module emphasizes the importance of understanding God’s attributes and works, as this knowledge shapes our relationship with Him and our understanding of His plan for humanity. Biblical theology investigates God’s self-revelation, focusing on His character as progressively disclosed through His covenants and actions throughout history.
