Christology, Pneumatology, and Anthropology: God’s Redemptive Plan
This module delves into Christology, Pneumatology, and Anthropology, which are crucial doctrines for understanding God’s redemptive plan. Christology, the doctrine of Christ, explores Christ’s theanthropic person (fully God, fully man), His deity, His humanity, the humiliation and exaltation of Christ, and historical views of His person. These doctrines are central to biblical theology as they reveal the unique role of Jesus Christ in God’s plan of salvation. Understanding Christ’s nature and work is essential for comprehending the gospel and our relationship with God. Biblical theology explores how Christ is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and the culmination of God’s redemptive plan.
Pneumatology, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, focuses on His divine personality and His work in salvation. The Holy Spirit’s role in empowering believers, convicting the world of sin, and guiding believers into truth is a key aspect of biblical theology. Biblical theology traces the Holy Spirit’s work throughout the Bible, from His role in creation to His empowering presence in the Church. Anthropology, the doctrine of Man, covers the origin and nature of man, his primitive state, his probation and fall, actual transgression, and the free gift of righteousness or grace. It also includes Hamartiology, the doctrine of sin, which explores original sin, its effects, and the nature and character of guilt and penalty. These doctrines provide a biblical understanding of humanity’s condition and need for salvation, which is a central theme in biblical theology. Biblical theology examines the theme of humanity’s fallenness and God’s plan for redemption throughout the entire biblical narrative.
